Beginning Sourdough

Registration for this class opens to MMFS members on November 10, and then to the general public on November 12, 2026. Not a member yet? You can sign up here.

 

In this class, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of sourdough bread making. Class will cover how to create, feed, and maintain a starter, mix and knead flour and water, shape dough, and score and bake a loaf of bread. 

You will leave with your own starter, a loaf ready and prepared with instructions for you to bake in your oven the next day, and the confidence to continue your sourdough journey after class! 

 

About the Instructor: Erin Madison

Instructor will provide the following: 
Sourdough starter, flour, salt, banneton, dutch whisk, measuring cups, baking scale, and dough scraper.

 

Students are asked to bring:

• A large glass, stone, or stainless steel bowl.
• Please wear closed-toe shoes for this culinary class.
• Optional: an apron

Skill Level
No experience required.

 

Age Recommendation 
Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Students ages 16 and 17 may attend without a parent/guardian in attendance as long as MMFS is provided with written parental permission by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
