Marine Mills Folk School Fall Festival

Our Fall Festival is a free public event celebrating folk art and community in the beautiful St. Croix Valley! Join us for artist demonstrations and mini workshops that offer a taste of our upcoming classes, live music, square dancing, and a juried artist market. We’ll also be joined by community partners in the area showcasing what their organizations do, and local food vendors who will keep you fueled.
The festival happens rain or shine! In the event of dangerous weather, it will be held on Sunday, September 20. We will update the website and social media by Friday, September 18 with any changes.
Mini Workshops - register now!
Get a taste of what it’s like to take a class with one of our instructors. Mini workshops are 60 minutes long with a $20 tuition. Sign up in advance (if spots are available day-of, we will accept walk ups). Meet at the Workshop tent to begin your session.

Live Music Schedule
10:00–11:30
Community Bluegrass Jammers led by Randy Gildersleeve
Tap your toes to the music played by members of our monthly Community Bluegrass Jam! Do you like to jam? Join them next time! Jams happen on the 2nd Saturday of each month, with sections for both intro and intermediate players.
12:00–1:30
Kinda Fonda Wanda plays uptempo classic country and rockabilly music in and around the Twin Cities. Practice your two-stepping to this high-octane, rock ‘n’ roll, honky-tonk band!
2:00–4:00
Square Dancing with Ann Carter Calling and the Waxwing Duo
Listen and dance to upbeat, joyful, old-time/bluegrass music! Ann will lead some simple community square dances accompanied by the Waxwing Duo, made up of Sam Timmerck and Brenton Haack. These stellar multi-instrumentalists play a mix of fiddle, banjo & guitar along with their sweet vocal harmonies. Do-si-do a neighbor, swing a partner, stomp your feet, and celebrate fall!

Hands-on Blacksmithing Demo
11:00–2:00
Blacksmithing: Squiggles and Bends
Get introduced to the basic tools and techniques used in blacksmithing, as you use a forge, hammer, and anvil to shape a bar of steel. Participants will take turns making forged squiggles collaboratively. Assistance by two CAFAC staff members.
Find them in the field near the workshop tent. This event has no cost.
Family Tent
The Family Tent hosts hands-on activities for all ages all day including mini crop art, face painting, and fly tying demos, with a focus on reuse and natural materials!

With an array from fiber arts to glass, apothecary to woodworking, our curated artist market has something for everyone! Many of our vendors have upcoming classes with us—they’ll have signage with QR codes so that you can learn more or sign up on the spot.

Celebrate and support Marine Mills Folk School by bidding in a silent auction of beautifully hand knit items donated by our very own knit night group! They lovingly pick up every stitch to help create community. All proceeds benefit Marine Mills Folk School. The auction closes at 3pm; check in at that time to see if you’re the lucky winner.
Food

The Lion’s Club and the Marine General Store will have food and beverages for purchase, including vegan and gluten free options.
There will also be
hands-on bread baking demos with the mobile bread oven, and
free samples!
