Rug Hooking Coasters

Learn the fundamentals of rug hooking with wool fabric strips on a linen backing to create a pair of coasters. Rug hooking has been practiced in North America for over 200 years, and was born out of necessity – utilizing fabric scraps and upcycling to create functional rugs. 

In this beginner-friendly class, you will learn how to pull loops, how to hook straight and curved lines, and how to finish edges. At the end of the day, you will leave with at least one finished coaster, supplies for a second, and a new love for this traditional artform!

 

About the Instructor: Alycen Brothen 

Instructor will provide the following:
All project materials, including hoops, hooks, wool fabric strips, and linen backing material.

 

Students are asked to bring:

• note-taking tools (if you’d like to take notes)
• We recommend dressing in layers, as certain classrooms can be drafty depending on the time of year.

Skill Level 
No experience required. 

Age Recommendation
Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Students ages 16 and 17 may attend without a parent/guardian in attendance as long as MMFS is provided with written parental permission by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
