Dip Your Own Shabbat Candles

Shabbat is the Jewish day of rest-- from sundown on Fridays to sundown on Saturdays. We "ignite" shabbat by lighting two candles and being present with the flame. Jewish or not, use these candles to ignite a rest practice! They also make a lovely gift for a Jewish loved one.

This class will walk through the process of hand-dipping shabbat candles from start to finish. You will use instructor Miriam Khanan’as equipment, so you can explore the craft of candle dipping before investing in the setup yourself. Through this class you will:

• leave with at least 4 sets of shabbat candles you've made (more if you pick it up quick!)
• learn about the history of Jewish candle making
• connect with others about how we can be more intentional with rest

About the Instructor: Miriam Khanan

 

Instructor will provide the following: 
All candle making materials and supplies, including beeswax cultivated in the Saint Croix River Valley.

 

Students are asked to bring:

• apron
• note-taking tools (if you’d like to take notes)
• We recommend dressing in layers, as certain classrooms can be drafty depending on the time of year.

Skill Level
No experience required.

 

Age Recommendation
Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Students ages 16 and 17 may attend without a parent/guardian in attendance as long as MMFS is provided with written parental permission by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
