Registration for this class opens to MMFS members on November 10, and then to the general public on November 12, 2026. Not a member yet? You can sign up here.
Learn instructor Jess Lindell’s unique “333” approach to watercolor while painting a bunny portrait together. The Paint 333 system breaks watercolor down into an accessible and playful process that builds confidence and creativity.
You’ll explore:
- 3 properties of water control for paper, paint, and brushes
- 3 principles of color, contrast, and composition
- 3 steps of painting: working with water, dropping in color, and finishing with texture
Along the way, you’ll also learn five techniques—glazing, grainer brush, scraping, pulling color and splatter—while creating a vibrant and expressive bunny painting. By the end of the workshop, you’ll walk away with new skills, creative confidence, and the tools to continue exploring watercolor on your own.
About the Instructor: Jess Lindell
Instructor will provide the following:
Each student will receive a printed workbook and a painting kit that includes:
- 4 sheets of 11x14 140lb Fabriano Studio Cold Press Paper
- one 16-well Royal & Langnickel watercolor palette filled with
- 5 Daniel Smith colors
- plastic fork for scraping
- kneaded eraser
- #2 pencil
- Uniball Deluxe ink pen
- reusable paper towel
- reference photo and tracing paper
- Instructor will also provide: artist tape, water cups, some brushes for use in class.
Students are asked to bring:
- Please bring your favorite watercolor brushes for covering large areas with water and for making small details.
- Recommended brushes – Princeton Select Artiste Series 3750 (with the short blue handles): one size 2 liner brush (for fine lines), three to five size 6 round brushes, one to three 1/2 to 3/4 inch grainer brushes (for painting fur) and one to three 3/4 or 1 Inch (or size 20) flat / shader brushes. Having multiple brushes of the same size keeps you from having to clean them between colors and saves paint.
- Optional: other favorite watercolor supplies, if you have them.
- Note-taking tools (if you’d like to take notes)
- We recommend dressing in layers, as certain classrooms can be drafty depending on the time of year.
- Since your class runs over the lunch hour, you may want to consider bringing a lunch or snack. Click HERE to learn about local eating opportunities before or after your class.
