Introduction to Hmong Embroidery: Paj Ntaub

This class will open for registration during our Fall Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

 

This introductory class explores Hmong embroidery needlework, known as paj ntaub (flower cloth). You will learn about the history, motifs, and symbols of the Hmong paj ntaub before creating your own patterned paj ntaub piece using the cross-stitching embroidery method. 

 

Each student will receive a paj ntaub kit prepared by instructor Mandora Young with project materials and additional tips and resources. You will begin your needlework project during class and may complete it on your own if it isn’t finished during the session.

 

Once completed, your needlework project can be framed (please note: frame is not included in the class).

Skill Level 

No experience required. 

 

Age Recommendation 

Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Students ages 16 and 17 may attend without a parent/guardian in attendance as long as MMFS is provided with written parental permission by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
