Polish Cuisine: Potato and Mushroom Pierogi

This class will open for registration during our Fall Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

 

Step into the heart of Polish home cooking with this hands-on class focused on the country's most beloved dumplings: pierogi. Instructor Aleksandra Ward will share dough making techniques as participants shape, seal, and cook their pierogi, discovering tips for achieving tender dough, balanced fillings, and beautiful edges. We will create classic fillings: sauerkraut and mushroom, and potato and cheese. You will practice different folding styles and cooking methods, from boiling to pan frying, and will discuss how to present and serve pierogi. 

 

Along the way, we’ll explore the cultural significance of these dishes in Polish holidays and everyday life. Tasting and sampling will, of course, be part of the experience!

 

About the Instructor: Aleksandra Ward

 

Instructor will provide the following: 

Recipes, ingredients, handouts, and samples to take home.

 

Students are asked to bring:

• apron
• cutting board
• rolling pin
• large mixing bowl
• measuring cups and spoons
• tupperware for samples
• Please wear closed toe shoes for this culinary class.

 

Skill Level 

No experience required. 

 

Age Recommendation 

Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Students ages 16 and 17 may attend without a parent/guardian in attendance as long as MMFS is provided with written parental permission by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
