This class will open for registration during our Fall Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Inlay is the timeless craft of embedding contrasting materials–often different wood species, metals, or shells–into a wooden or stone surface to create stunning, decorative patterns and accents. The Taj Mahal in India is a prime example of this art form, though this class will practice it on wood.

In this introductory class, you’ll learn the essential techniques for creating your own inlay. You’ll explore how to select materials, prepare the host surface, and cut and fit intricate pieces with precision. Starting with simple geometric patterns, you’ll practice using sharp chisels to achieve clean, seamless results.

The class also covers methods for setting inlays securely and sanding or finishing your piece to reveal its striking contrasts. Whether you’re looking to enhance your woodworking skills or add elegance to your projects, this hands-on course will inspire you to incorporate the beauty of inlay into your craft.
