Wet Felt a Sauna Hat

Make your sauna sessions more fun and colorful with your very own wet felted sauna hat! In this class, you will learn how to lay out your hat design, then apply soap and water and agitate until loose fiber becomes a durable insulating wool fabric. Your project will move from a two dimensional form to a three dimensional hat like magic. 

 

The class requires some arm strength and stamina, but the rewards of your hard work will include a relaxing sauna with a new hat to protect your head and hair from the heat!

 

About the Instructor: Katie Kaufmann  

 

Instructor will provide the following: 

Bubble wrap, mesh, plastic sheeting, sponges, foam resists, pool noodles with dowels, soap, 2-3 spray bulbs, roving.

 

Students are asked to bring:

• two bath towels
• quart sized container, such as a plastic soup container
• gallon size ziploc bag to take home wet work

Skill Level 

No experience required. 

 

Age Recommendation 

Students ages 15 and older are welcome to attend this class. Students age 15 must register with another registered adult. Ages 16-17 can register with parent permission by an email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
