Discover a new form of artmaking with “Brushrooms,” mushroom marker drawing tools created from native (birch polypore) mushrooms. In this class, you will learn how to identify these mushrooms and hear about their 5000-year history of human use.
During class you will use basic knife skills to shape the mushroom and attach a wood handle to construct your own mushroom marker. You will then experiment with mushroom mark making on paper, creating your own organic and biomorphic artwork.
About the Instructor: Presley Martin
Instructor will provide the following:
- birch polypore mushrooms
- wood handles
- copper wire
- glue
- knives and a saw
- ink
- paper
Students are asked to bring:
No materials necessary, but a carving knife is useful if you have one.
Skill Level
No experience required.
Age Recommendation
Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Students ages 16 and 17 may attend without a parent/guardian in attendance as long as MMFS is provided with written parental permission by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
