Carve a Mörksuggan -- the "pig of darkness" or "dark sow" from the Dalarna region of Sweden. This mythical creature from Swedish folklore was said to inhabit dark forests, serving as a warning to children not to stay out too late. Today Mörksuggan carvings are placed in homes as protective symbols and watchful guardians.
During this beginner-friendly class, each student will start with a block of pine wood. You will use simple carving tools to carve a dark pig and paint it with non-toxic milk paint. Wire, yarn, and a small weight will be used for the tail. The carved pigs will be about six inches high and will be ready to balance on any bookshelf, windowsill, or other ledge in the home.
