Let’s Knit Socks (2-week class)

Socks can be tricky! Experienced knitter Carol Stec is here to help. In this 2-week class, Carol will guide you through sock making and introduce you to a short row technique for knitting heels. 

 

Before the first class, please complete a swatch for gauge (4”x 4” in stockinette) using the needles and yarn you will be using in class. Then, in the first class, we will take measurements of our feet to create a customized pattern – we like socks that fit, don’t you? We will be starting our first sock in class with a stretchy cast on, beginning with the cuff, which you can make short (as pictured) or longer. In the second session, we will focus on the heel, and you will be equipped with what you need to complete your socks at home.

 

This class will be fun, relaxed, and intentionally small for one-on-one instruction. Each student can expect to receive individualized help throughout class. Around 1 week before the first class, the instructor will send an email that includes the pattern, which students should print and bring to class.

 

*Note: This is a 2-week class, taking place on Saturday, October 24 and Saturday, October 31, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm each day.

Students are asked to bring:

• 100g or 3.5oz of sock weight yarn in a color of your choice: wool or cotton is recommended 
• set of 5 double point needles, size 2 (2.75 mm) 
• ruler 
• calculator
• pencil & paper
• print-out of the pattern (instructor will email this in advance of class)

Skill Level 

Experienced – students should be experienced with knitting in the round, be familiar with long tail cast on, be able to read a pattern, and should have completed several projects.

 

Age Recommendation

Students ages 18 and older are welcome to attend this class.
