Wicked Buckthorn: Dye on Silk - Saturday, September 27, 2025

To dye silk with the invasive buckthorn bark and berries is pure alchemy. Learn how to extract green from the purple berries and reds from the bark, and watch magic happen when the colors blend to make gold. Make honeycomb and bloom designs using innovative wicking and natural dye techniques. Participants produce 2 unique bandanas suitable for wear or to feature in other fiber work.

 

Your instructor will provide 2 pre-mordanted silk bandanas and prepared buckthorn dyes. 

 

Students are asked to bring the following materials:

• Wear clothing that can get messy
• Rubber gloves
• A bucket

Adults ages 18 and older.
